Idle can often times be overlooked as it is maybe not as sexy as a full-bore rev. That doesn’t mean it can’t get your figurative motor running.

Show me vehicles/engines that, in your opinion, have the best “resting heartbeat”.

I’ll start things off by nominating the vaunted 426 Hemi.

Don’t have headphones or time, but my nominations would be either the DeTomaso Pantera or any of the late 90’s early 2000’s V8 powered TVRs.

Sounds intoxicating(to me!), and smells freaking awesome! Yay pre-emissions 911s! Nothing beats the smells and sounds of the childhood!

And once we get it completely running again, I’ll be able to hear and smell it some more!

I can't really choose the best, I would say any old muscle car, but I give you Subaru 3.6 H6 for worst.

Hmmm Maybe these... the 1966 Mustang is a 289 Hi-Po car and the Gran Torino is a 351C Cobra Jet

Saab’s B202 has the best four-cylinder sound. Subaru wants to sound like this when it grows up

This is a difficult question, but I’m awfully biased towards the built 225 Buick Dauntless Oddfire V6 in my (previously owned) 1971 Jeep CJ5.

If you are talking best sounding car with stock engine and exhaust my vote is the DeTomaso Pantera. Almost any car can be made to sound “good” with a big cam and exhaust, but stock for stock the Pantera is a tough act to follow. I will have to admit that the Hemi you posted did sound awfully sweet! :-)
